An estimated 110 million people watched Superbowl 2012, and were treated to an exciting game. My family and I watched it, of course with my remote in hand, lest my children be assaulted with the increasingly ugly and near pornographic commercials.
Knowing that the “halftime” show would feature the depraved pop star Madonna, we skipped that also.
But elements of her show have been brought to my attention, and I believe merit comment. I believe that they serve as a sign, to anyone who has ears to hear.
First though I want to give a precise definition of what I mean by a sign, for I speak theologically. A sign is an event that serves to point to a greater reality.
When Jesus opened the blind eyes, or healed the lame, or cleansed leprosy, he did it out of divine compassion, to relieve the misery of those who came to him. I believe that Jesus still acts this way through the church, laying hands on the suffering in his name, performing healings.
But the miracles that were recorded were handpicked to make a theological point. The “signs” pointed to a larger truth, that Jesus opens the eyes of the spiritually blind, he causes spiritually “lame” people to be able to walk with God! The leprosy he cleansed was a type of the living death of sin.
In that way Jesus’ miracles were also signs. They pointed to what the Son of God does about the human condition.
What 110 ten million people were “treated” to in the spectacle of Madonna’s half time show was also a ‘sign’ which points to a greater reality. It is an unfortunate reality, but I believe God is speaking to all who will hear…
The sad reality is that much of America’s ruling class; ie the shapers of opinion, the media, the “entertainment” field, professional sports, and of course politics, education, and even “the arts”, are almost in their entirety sold out to evil.
Madonna’s “show” was literally a tribute to paganism. She came in on a throne, being dragged by men in Greco /Roman type soldier costumes. (ie The Ancient world, pre-christian and pagan).
The dancing on the stage was replete with all of the degraded sexual imagery one would know to expect from a Madonna outing, but the sexual perversion went with the theme of pre-christian paganism being glorified.Pagan rituals have always included sexual degradation.
Occult symbolism saturated the set, and the lewd dancers on the stage with Madonna wore frightening masks, one of which was the goat head of Baphomet, (Satan). A choir behind Madonna wore black capes and as they sang in an almost religious fervor, Madonna was elevated on a stage , dressed in black, and with an African American singer also dressed in black.
Go figure! The stage name “Madonna” comes from her Roman Catholic background, it means “Our Lady”, and refers to the Queen of Heaven, the very goddess Jeremiah warned against.
As if Madonna wasn’t enough, she was accompanied by the lewd singer and dancer Manage, and the equally obscene M.I.A. who used filthy language and an obscene gesture. This was the NFL’s offering to more than 110 million people!
I will leave it to others to try to interpret the imagery of Madonna’s satanic halftime show. I would caution against too much fascination with the details of evil, the dark secrets of Satan.
Instead we should be advised that when 110 million people are unwittingly treated to the spectacle of an ancient Babylonian , and Satanic ritual at the halftime of America’s favorite sport, we are in deep trouble, morally and spiritually.
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?(Jeremiah 7:18-19)
Notice Jeremiah calls them out because the whole family was involved, Fathers Mothers and children , in the abomination. How many whole families gathered round the television, for the Superbowl and had no clue what had happened over halftime?
There are other ominous portents of evil out there, Obama’s bullying of the Catholic (and all) pro life churches, the homosexual “victory” over the people of California, the scorn our leaders have for people of faith, but the half time of the Superbowl would have to be the most blatant sign of our own decline I have ever seen.
“See ye the Lord while he can be found and call upon Him while he is near”, for night comes…

Thank you for this post. I sent it to all the “football fans” in my address book. Was saddened to learn that even churches had super bowl parties ~ wonder if any eyes were opened as Madonna preformed..?.. I have never liked football and do not watch it ~ too much like the gladiators of former days.
BTW, it is my understanding that Madonna has joined the Jewish mystical sect Kaballah, as has Rosanne Barr. Interesting combination, Roseanne raised Jewish, Madonna catholic.

Why would you be “saddened” that churches have super bowl parties? The commercials and half-time show were obviously repulsive, however no different than typical television programming any other day of the year!

I too saw some clips of Madonna’s half-time show on the news here (NZ). You are right – there is meaning in what she did. The last few seconds of the show are all I remember (The news didn’t show it all). – She disappeared down a hole in the ground or stage. Smoke then bellowed out of the same hole.
As if she was entering Hell. – I don’t know if she meant it that way – BUT, I think she did.
She was depicting herself going to Hell.
What a shame and what an eternal sadness.

I heard about this and was not surprised but grieved to hear what I heard happened for in 2010 I had done research for our cell group concerning babylon the great and I stumbled upon an analytical piece of writing on Madonna and the cultural mind control that she seems to be orchestrating. Madonna is a highly intelligent woman and seems to be the brains behind the outfit. She had britney speares on board until speares freaked out and then she got lady gaga to take britney’s place. According to what I read it seems that a number of pop stars are just following suit because they are just trying to keep in step with the trend setters. But I believe that these women are taking pop culture into the realm of pop worship and it will not be too long before these women will be considered as high priestesses through whom people will worship Ishtar or Aphrodite etc. I may be wrong but I know that in the last days literal Ishtar/Ashteroth worship is revived and I ask how? I already believe that there is an element of worship already with the music, sports, hollywood industries but to become a vehicle of ‘official’ worship seems to be where this lady is leading everyone. Thus we are witnessing a major piece in the puzzle for the emergence of the end time Babylon the Great. I don’t know who else would be a trend setter, I don’t keep up with the music industry. I don’t know how far gone it is done this path. But I know it is high time that we, in the body, come of our slumber, think differently to the world, act differently to the world, watch differently to the world and listen differently to the world. This last weekend I posted on FB that Madonna was Channeling Ishtar, queen of heaven. No one else was able to decern this evil. Yet everyday the level of wickedness increases to fever pitch.
Excellent commentary on the halftime show with Madonna. I didn’t watch it but saw clips of it on the news. Madonna is an example of utter depravity and lawlessness and a member of Kaballah. Did you notice the alien grays in some of the commercials? The world is being groomed for the “strong delusion.” Keep your posts coming, Pastor Bill. They are timely and much needed.

I have only recently come across you blog, and appreciated your balanced approach.
The sinking of the cruise liner Costa Concordia, off the coast of Italy, was also a sign, I believe. Not, of course, that God caused the accident, but has used it to show – for those who have ears and eyes to hear and see (not many) – that Europe has gone off course and turned away from it’s Judeo-Christian roots, and has gone onto the rocks. The ship called Europe is now precariously balanced and about to slip into the depths unless we return to the Lord.
Also, the irresponsible behaviour of the captain and his abandoning of the ship before the passengers to save his own skin probably has quite a lot of say about our European leaders!
This doesn’t surprise me at all, though it does sadden me greatly. What I think many people miss is that this spectacle during the halftime show is nothing more than a piece of what the superbowl is all about, at least in modern culture. The Superbowl may have started off innocently, but it is far from innocent sporting competition these days. The whole thing is an industry that centers on idolatry and immorality.
Here are some examples:
110 million gallons of beer are sold on Superbowl Sunday. 110 million gallons! Can you fathom that? That’s enough for the entire population (men, women and children) of the United States to drink themselves to legal intoxication and have some left over.
The sexual immorality aspect is also deeply ingrained; it is estimated that more than 10,000 sex workers (mostly sex slaves in the human trafficking black market) were imported into the Miami area for the 2010 Superbowl, and that the 2011 Superbowl likely exceeded that number. Indiana had to pass special legislation just to deal with impending sex trafficking problem that they knew was coming to Indianapolis with the Superbowl this year.
Then there’s correlation with Bill’s comments about the whole family making special food for the worship ceremony in Jeremiah’s time. I went to the store on Saturday to buy groceries. It was a madhouse. Elbow to elbow people piling their carts full. The gluttony of Superbowl Sunday is unsurpassed, even by Thanksgiving or Christmas. Check out the magazine rack at the store while you’re there (if you’re brave enough) and look at how many magazines feature articles about Superbowl party recipes. There are entire cookbooks written with nothing more than recipes for Superbowl food. What was one of Sodom’s characteristics? Fullness of bread. To put it simply, gluttony.
Given an event that inspires this kind of behavior in our culture, is it any surprise that the entertainment portion of the event, the half-time show, features crass and lewd imagery and lyrics? The Superbowl television programmers aren’t just trolls that are out to destroy America, they are catering to the demands of the culture. The people want idolatry, paganism, and sexual immorality, so let’s fill the market’s demand.

I definitely see your point and I agree with some of it. However, a devout Christian should never be tolerant of sexual promiscuity. It leads to many other sins and corrupts families. I don’t think that she was depicting herself falling in to hell at the end either. All kinds of performers have been entering and exiting the stage like that for a long time now.
Being intolerant of someone else’s actions (obviously someone not in your family) is wrong… Love thy neighbour. If your next door neighbour is sleeping with 3 women, you know one of them as a colleague from work… Who on earth do you think you are to be intolerant of that person, closing the door in their face while they ask you for help, maybe shot on your lawn… Let’s take it a step further, intolerance breeds hatred, hatred breeds war… Look at all the wars ever fought, someone being intolerant of someone else…
That being said, I could not give a flying squirrel of a care of you hate me or not, I am tolerant of all people, and their beliefs… If you want to act like the town bicycle, good for you, just don’t do it in my house… Most people are big and ugly enough to know the risks involved.
