The Future Of Turkey …Islam in Prophecy pt 15

The modern nation of Turkey is an important player in the  events leading to the Day of the Lord. Though it is a Muslim nation at present, in the earliest centuries of the new testament church, it was in the Turkish region that the gospel first flourished  beyond the borders of Judea and Samaria.

The apostles took the gospel to what then was refered to as the  Roman province of Asia, within decades of the resurrection of Jesus. Paul taught there for two years as recorded in Acts 19.The original letters of the Apocalypse were  addressed to churches in  Ephesus, Smyrna,  Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and to Laodicea, all in modern-day Turkey.

The epistles to Thessalonica, Galatians, I John, I and II Timothy and Revelation all originally addressed greek speaking converts in what is now called Turkey. Eventually the Roman Emperor Constantine, in the 4th century, built a city on the Dardanelles strait, Constantinople, as the eastern capital of the Roman Empire.

For the next thousand years, the Christianity that Constantine officially legalized, became the religion of the Byzantine empire, which extended over the middle east,  a swath of eastern Europe and all of Turkey.

But with the rise and expansion of Islam, bit, by bit, Byzantium fell to the Muslims over the next eight centuries, slowly and steadily until in 1452 Constantinople fell to the Muslim invaders. The Turkish empire which replaced it, became known as the Ottoman empire, a Sunni Muslim empire which held sway for five centuries, but which collapsed as an outcome of World War 1, the Turks having been on the losing side.

One of Turkey’s post war leaders, was a man named Mustafa Kemal. He was also known as  Ataturk ,”Father of Turks”, and as  a hero of the first World War ,who had commanded Turkish forces during the ill-fated British invasion and siege of Gallipoli.

In the aftermath of the war, Attaturk initiated sweeping national reforms; culturally, politically and even religiously, Seperating the power of the Mosque from the state, outlawing religious clothing such as the hijab and other forms of Islamic attire. For more than eighty years, these reforms have remained, allowing Turkey to become a modern, secular state, a partner with NATO, and to be considered for membership in the European Union.

The fairly recent elections in Turkey brought Turkish Islamist elements to power. Already the former friendship with the United States has weakened and Turkey is distancing herself from Israel. One by one many of Ataturk’s reforms are being reversed as Islam reasserts itself in Turkish society.

Turkey’s long friendship with the United States and with Israel has cooled, and she has began to assert herself as a regional Muslim power with a first class military and economy.

The Prophets of the Bible have much to say about the future of this non-Arab Islamic people.  Meshech, Gomer and  “Beth Togarmah”, (ie the house of Togarmeh), are some of the names the Biblical prophets cite when referring to this region.

And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,  Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:  Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(Ezekiel 38:1-6)

*Gog, and Magog – Gog is a person, a designation for an Anti-God leader of a rebellion. Magog is the name of a region,  particularly, the southern Steppes of Russia, Turkmenistan,Kazakhstan,Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan.

* Meshech and Tubal- Meshech was the son of Japheth, Noah’s son. Many believe that Meshech is Moscow, but It has been pointed out in Walid Shoebat’s valuable book,”God’s War On Terror”, that ancient historians such as Herodotus and Josephus, associate Meshech with the Cappadocians. Cappadocia is a region in Turkey. Tubal was a regional ally of Meshech.

* Gomer- This is a reference to the ancient Kimmerian peoples, of central Turkey.

*Beth Togarmeh- The house of Togarmeh, which was a city-state in Eastern Turkey, more recently known as Anatolia.

It may be as many surmise, that “Gog” is the head of the Russian people, leading these Islamic nations into battle against the Jews. God addresses him personally in Ezekiel, insuring him of his defeat. The Russians have certainly been an “armorer” unto these nations as Ezekiel 38:7 literally says, “…Be thou an armorer unto them”.

Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

Though the Turks have traditionally been inveterate foes of the Russians for centuries, and were aligned with the US in the cold war confrontation with the Soviet Union, the combination of being refused admission to the EU and the election to office of the Islamist politicians, Turkey has been pursuing deeper ties with the Arab world, and with the Russians who are arming it.

After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.

Ezekiel tells us that Turkey is slated to participate in a muli-national invasion of Israel, which is doomed to suffer a direct judgment of God as a consequence and on the basis of Genesis 12:3, “…I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you”.

The Turks will be there, for the terrible war, with their “grade A “military; western trained, and equipped. They will come down, along with the Turkik nations of the former Soviet Union,   Iran, Libya, Somalia/Sudan,  and possibly led by Russia. All of these nations are united in a bitter hatred of Israel, and all except Russia, have Islam in common, to stoke that hatred.

They will serve as a living and dying demonstration that there is truly a God in the earth, as prophesied by Ezekiel and others,

Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:  And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.  Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.  Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord God.  And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord.  So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel.(Ezekiel 39:1-7)

Do you actually know any Turks? They’re easy to find in any university city. Their best and brightest young people seek to earn American degrees and make American friends. God has brought them half-way around the world. Have you gone half-way across town to make them welcome in the name of Jesus?

Do you even care for them, as human beings made in God’s image, sons of Adam for whom Christ died? Or are they merely pawns in your sick head games? Does it not embarrass you that you even misspelled Atatürk’s name?

MY prophecy — God’s mighty and gracious works among the Turks will spill over across the whole Turkic “Silk Road” area, as the various -stans between the Mediterranean and the Pacific take note of how the Gospel can transform a nation, and decide they want a piece of that action.

My other prophecy — in the near future, the damnable ingratitude of the doomsayers will wear out God’s patience, and the fortune-tellers who keep celebrating Satan’s imaginary global victory will lose health, wealth, and followers — unless they repent. May our God grant you, dear brother, the grace of repentance. And me.

Yes I do know Turks,(why assume that I don’t, or that I don’t care?).Yes Christ died for them, and yes as in other parts of the Muslim world, Turks are recieving revelation that Jesusis Lord,Hallelujah. As for your ‘prophecy’, I fervently hope and pray that God would be pleased to save millions out of Islam, however we have to be true to the Word of the actual prophets of the Bible. BTW they were not “doomsayers” or “fortunetellers” celebrating Satan’s “victory” as you suggest. They were faithful stewards of Revelations from God. Thank you for your input, we all need each other-

    • billrandles says:

ps,Yes I am a little embarassed about mispelling Ataturk. Thanks for the correction and for reading my blog, stay tuned!

  2. RJR Fan says:

OK — your reply is more gracious than mine. I salute your generosity of spirit.

Seriously, though, “back in the day” when Hal Lindsey was still on wife #2, and his lurid paperbacks blasted the careers of untold millions of faithful young Christians, all the “prophecy teachers” KNEW, and assured us of the “fact,” that Soviet Communism was the Scarlet Beast of the End times. We lived under the realistic possibility of global thermonuclear war. You’re probably too young to remember those days. Then, almost overnight, this menace, this threat, was gone. The Soviet bloc became fertile soil for the gospel. Today, Eastern Orthodox Christianity defines many elements of Russian life, including their compassion for Christians in the Middle East.

Did a single one of the fortune-tellers fall on their faces before God, repent for their blasphemous ascription of destiny to that formally atheistic system, and thank Him for subduing it before the claims of Christ?

    (sound of crickets … )

No, what these soothsayers, bibliomancers, fortune-tellers, and “prophecy teachers” did was — immediately scurry around, frantically seeking OTHER antichrist candidates to grovel / cower before. It’s a pity you’re too young to remember how quickly those claims about the Scarlet Beast vanished down the memory hole. IF you could remember those days, you’d think twice about predicting the failure of the gospel today.

Which will fall first — Islam? Or America’s state religion of secular humanism? Will we be ready for our opportunities when these enemies of our God and of His Christ bite the dust? Or will be be pinning our hopes on space aliens, or irate Zulus, as our hoped-for, yearned-for, and presumptuously predicted antichrist nurseries?

It’s not safe to bet against the power of the gospel. It denigrates God’s goodness and power to assume that evil will enjoy, even temporarily, a global triumph. God has better things for us.

  3. Wayne says:

7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.

Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am anot as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

    Matthew 7

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

  4. Harun Yahya says:

I guess Islam wont have a significant effect on Turkey’s future

    • billrandles says:

Why do you say that? Islamis already having an effect on Turkey’s future, leading it ti ally with Islamists and eventually to a direct,(and cataclysmic confrontation) with the God if Israel,(see Ezekiel 38-39)

  5. Alan MacKenzie says:

Hi Bill. I was fortunate enough to attend a meeting in Port Elizabeth yesterday with a young Christian missionary from Turkey (Yes, Turkey have sent a missionary to South Africa to warn us of the effects of Islamization) who converted from Islam in 2000. He explained in some detail the process of infiltration and what their agenda is, particularly in Africa, so I’m with you on this one! I believe that their role in the end time scenario will be profound.

Having said that, I also believe that God is bringing many nations to our shores so that we can evangelize them here , in a country that still enjoys a relative ‘free-speech’ environment, in order for them to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ back to their people (a kind of Acts 2:5-12 situation). Our Chinese Fellowship is a testimony to this and we have wonderful testimonies from folk who were saved here and have returned to China as believers. We’re now looking at other people groups like Somalis, Pakistanis, Indians, Bangladeshis…. Personally and Biblically, I don’t see millions turning away from Islam but I do see the Church of Jesus Christ alive in every part of the world, albeit underground.

It’s time for us to awake out of our slumber.

  6. Waft jafa says:

Yes ,Islam is going to be the future of Turks as their past experience with secularism has proved that they should give it a try, and there is no harm if it is the will of people…

    • billrandles says:

thanks for the comment, I am glad you are reading. Yes I agree if Yurkey wants more Islam, they should be allowed to have it, but they will then have to live by the consequences of such a decision. They have a date with Divine destiny as Ezekiel 38 reveals.

  7. RJR Fan says:

My PhD dissertation compares the major literary works of two men who looked at a collapsing empire and said, “You know, we can do better.” A 5th-century African Christian and a 20th-century secular Turk stressed many of the same themes. This book, “How to Mend a Broken World” is available in paperback and Kindle formats: [paperback version of dissertation] [Kindle version of dissertation]
The future is as bright as the promises of God, thanks to the power He unleashes in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  8. RJR Fan says:

And, the Kindle version: [Kindle version of dissertation]

  9. wojolohre says:

Time has a way of sorting out the deceived, maybe even humbling us and correcting the saints, and God’s Word is never wrong just often misinterpreted.
