It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:
The mark of the Christian, is that He praises God! The dead praise not the Lord we are told, but those infused with the gift of Life are alive and can respond to Him.
2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
Morning and evening,The mercy of God and his covenant faithfulness is lauded by those of the Redeemed. The lost don’t understand this, and think we are silly for always having the song of redemption in our hearts.
3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.4 For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.5 O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
The highest thoughts that the mind is capable of, are those set upon the nature of God and His mighty works. Creation and Redemption, the old song and the new song, are the two great works by which He has made the redeemed glad.
6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.
We introduce here the Wisdom portion of this blessed Psalm, the deep truth hidden from the .brutish. of this world, that is, those unspiritual and incapable of seeing spiritually…
7 When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:8 But thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.9 For, lo, thine enemies, O Lord, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
The truth is that wicked men multiply and expand at rates equivalent to the grass. One day the lawn is brown, and the next day it is overgrown, lush but untidy. One day in the near past, we never saw many Muslims in the West, nor were homosexuals flaunting themselves so openly. But in a short time, they seem to have sprouted everywhere.
Burkhas are now seen on every street corner, dark, glaring, swarthy men, menacing youths, transgender this , that and the other things, and they are everywhere! It can almost become fearfully disturbing, unless you get the first half of this dark saying, revealed in this Blessed Psalm.
The wicked flourish like the grass, but just as soon they will be cut down, and burned.
Psalm 35 echoes this Wisdom,
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb…35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
The idea is to not allow such a flourishing of evil to take away your Sabbath rest, In Jesus we have Shalom.(John 16:33)
10 But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.11 Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.
My Horn? Who is speaking here? The Messiah is speaking, of his power, and comforting all who take their refuge in His anointing.
12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.13 Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
Thus the second part of the Wisdom saying; If the Wicked are like grass, soon to be cut down and consumed, the Righteous are like Palm trees. It takes a long time for a Palm tree to grow fruitful, but once to does, the fruitfulness lasts for decades!
15 To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
God knows what He is doing. We can see the evil and folly of our ‘leaders’ in the West who have brought these calamities upon us, but behind those factors is a Sovereign and upright God. God can use the invaders, to bring our prodigal nations back to simple faith in Jesus, then God will deal with them.
