Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,(Ezekiel 37:11-13)
Israel had been scattered, sent to the four corners of the earth as Moses foretold that they would be, for their transgressions and faithlessness towards Jahweh, their God. from 70 AD until May 1948, the nation had been settled in graves, “Ghettos” ,of suppressed, and persecuted Jewish existence among the nations.
Throughout the Moslem world, Jews languished in Yemen, Algeria, Morroco, Tunis, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, where they were subject to the heavy Dhimmi tax, and at anytime liable to endure flare-ups and persecutions, and even daily humiliations. The following are from an excellent book, “From Time Immemorial” by the late Joan Peters.
After 1948, 300,000 Jews made Aliyah from North Africa, most of them(250,000) from Morrocco. From Iraq came, 130,000 Jews, after the Government of Iraq froze all Jewish bank accounts, and turned Jewish public buildings over to the Palestinians. In 1950 Iraq enacted a law allowing Jews to Leave, “for good”,, along as they left all accumulated holdings behind them.
In Egypt when the six -day war began, Jews were arrested and put into concentration camps where they were beaten and whipped, and deprived of water and forced to chant anti-Israel slogans.By 1970 those Jews had escaped the country. ‘Egypt’, according to the officer in charge of the internment camp,’…had no place for Jews’.
In Syria in early 1947, only 13,000 Jews remained; thousands more of them had fled covertly…nearly 50,000 Yemenites who had never seen a plane were airlifted to Israel in 1949 and 1950…(From Time Immemorial, /Joan Peters,Harper and Row,1984)
The greatest concentration of world Jewry was in the Soviet Union,”The Land of the North” as the prophets foretold. They languished in their graves, until the collapse of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s.More than a million came to Israel from there since the breakdown.
There has been an ongoing ‘Exodus’ of Jewish people, since the re-birth of the nation ever since, and it is truly a sign that we are in the very last days. Jews stream out of the nations where they were scattered, flowing into Zion where they are settled and assimilated into the Jewish State at a miraculous rate.
There was “Operation Solomon” the miraculous airlift of nearly all of Ethiopia’s Jews at once. There have been Jewish tribes found in the jungles of India, in China, Mongolia and all over the ends of the earth.
The Bones are stirring but we have yet to see the outpouring of the Spirit from on high to come to the Jewish Remnant of God’s people.First the restored but unbelieving nation must endure her final conflict and deliverance, which is the subject of chapters 38-39..
And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it, saith the Lord. The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,(Ezekiel 37:14-15)
It is only on that day, when the LORD saves the nation, Spiritually and physically, that the Holy Nation will be truly and fully united, and finally be through with the deep sins which once alienated them from God. But He brings them out of their graves first, in unbelief, and back to the Land, then he breathes on them the Spirit.
Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.(Ezekiel 37:22-23)
