Where We (the church) Are In This Story … Balaam pt 5

And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way. But the angel of the Lord stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side. And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again. And the angel of the Lord went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times? And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay. Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.(Numbers 22:23-32)

Balaam the pagan prophet, was determined to find a way to gain the honors and rewards he was offered by the King of Moab, for the task of cursing Israel. But the LORD had expressly forbade him to go with them on the 400 mile journey from the Euphrates river to the Jordan. The LORD had also revealed to Balaam, that because he had blessed Israel, Balaam should not curse them.

But when the delegation returned with even greater wealth and honors, Balaam prayed again about whether he should go. This time the LORD told him to go with them, but his wrath burnt against the eager and ambitious prophet. But Balaam was oblivious to this fact.

So we have a grand procession , escorting the pagan prophet with riches and honor to Israel. Each one in the procession were drawn to the Holy Land by their own ambitions, as was Balaam.

For some it was a matter of pleasing the Arab King. For others it was excitement and wonder at the power of the celebrated, false prophet. Others in the procession wanted to curry favor with the King and perhaps attain riches and honor. Some just wanted to look good, and be part of something significant. Others hated Israel, without even knowing why and wanted to wipe them out.

Closer and closer the procession pressed on. None of them had any idea that really they were drawing ever closer to disastrous judgment, and death! Except one…the Ass.

At one point, Balaam’s ass turned off of the path and strayed out into a field. Balaam struck the ass to force it back onto the road. Later, as the delegation passed between the stone walls lining a section of the road, Balaam’s ass veered sharply, grinding Balaam’s foot against the wall, hurting it. This time the act was met with a rain of blows from the peeved Seer. Finally at another narrow pass, the Ass simply laid down on the road, refusing to move. This time Balaam struck the ass in a rage, with his staff.

It was then that the Lord opened the beasts mouth,

And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times? And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.

Furthermore the LORD who opened the ass’s mouth, also opened the “seer’s” eyes to see the mortal danger he was in, but which the ass delivered him from. Had the Ass passed on down the road, Balaam would have been smitten by the angel, and would have perished forever.

Now Balaam could see what the Ass saw all along. Evidently the “seer” couldn’t really see as well as the Canaanite delegation thought he could. Furthermore, by this incident the LORD showed the Pagan prophet that even an Ass could speak the Word God put in his mouth. This should have been a sign to Balaam, pointing to the sovereignty of the God he was now “dealing with”.

Furthermore, this incident would be a sign to Balak also. As the Prophet tried to cajole, curse and strike the Ass into doing what would prove to be fatal to himself, even so Balak would attempt to bribe, berate and threaten Balaam to do what would prove to be His own undoing.

Where are we, the church in this story?

Consider, that at the end of the world, all of the nations of the World are drawn, as this procession was, from Babylon to Israel, in order to curse (annihilate) Israel. Each one in thee procession has their own reasons and ambitions to fulfill. The Kings of the earth are uniting to fulfill what they think is a world uniting task. They are drawn like a magnet to the Middle East, and to Israel.

Some of them want world peace, some want world unity, some want to appease the Arabs and solve the pesky Middle East problem. Some want power and prestige. The Pope is among them, He wants the Catholic Church to be a world power again.  But they have no real idea of the utter danger they face, and that they are drawing into a vortex of judgment and wrath!

There is only one person in the whole procession who sees where all of this is going and who doesn’t want to be drug along into it…the church of Jesus Christ. We are like that Ass, we see what is coming but who would listen to us? When we speak up, we are beaten back down.

the lowliest christian believer in any church anywhere on earth, which teaches Bible Prophecy, has more insight into the world situation, than all of the pundits, experts, talking heads and world leaders put together…but who will listen to an Ass?

This blog made me chuckle today.

I can honestly say no one!

Certainly not in my immediate circle of friends and family
No one wants to talk about bible prophecy and if u do u r mocked but I do not care b/c the time has to be so close.
I think my family thinks I am not all there if u get my meaning but I am in Christ and that is all that matters to me.

Everyone talks about the convergence of events but I think of ISRAEL
    Then they recaptured Jerusalem.
Now in the news everyday Jerusalem
Didn’t God say in the Book of Zechariah that all who came against Jerusalem would be injured?

Proof positive that God is who He says He is
Romans Chapter 11 is a wonderful chapter in the Bible
I love ISRAEL b/c God does
He said He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
    Kind of says it all.

I do not really understand why people r not more excited about ISRAEL and ISRAELI’s
Beautiful people, obviously not all r saved but many r.
One day the whole nation will be saved.:)
    Yah!
Is 63 has to be Jesus walking to Petra to get the remnant of the Jewish people.
    Isaiah 63
63 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.
    I love that
    Glorious in his apparel
One day, very soon Jesus will be honored as He should have been so many years ago
Ruling and reigning from Jerusalem and 10 men will take hold of a Jew (I prefer Israeli – but whatever) and say we have heard u know of the LORD, take us to Him
    And even the
Zechariah 14 vs 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 20In that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “HOLY TO THE LORD.” And the cooking pots in the LORD’S house will be like the bowls before the altar.

Imagine that even the pots in the house will be like the bowls before the altar
What a time that will be
    When my Jesus
    We shall see.

I love reading the Word of God
Esp. where they have the greetings
Where beloved Apostle Paul says greetings at the beginning of each letter and the end
    It is so personal
One winter I was having a difficult time and I read where Paul asked for his winter coat (cloak) and his parchments and it touched me so much.
I love to read and the winters r awfully long in Canada.
Weird how the precious Holy Spirit just knows what we r to read on a certain day.

I just love the nobodies in the Bible b/c God put them there for a reason.
Imagine their names r in the bible
Or where in the OT God names faithful people.

In the Book of Acts after Stephen gave his address to the religious people he looked up and said I see the Son of man standing at the right hand of the father. How cool is that?
Not being martyred but Jesus actually standing to bring Stephen home.
What a saviour, what a redeemer, what a LORD we serve.

Also I read once that Corrie Ten Boom’s tree died on the day she died. It was planted in Israel for her being a righteous gentile.
    How cool is that.
God honored her b/c she honored God

Sometimes I am utterly amazed that God loves me or for that matter that my husband does
I am truly thankful and I thank them each and everyday
b/c w/o them in my life, I really do not know where I would be right now
All I can testify to is how great God is and how faithful He is and I love Him
And it is one day closer to the Rapture.
    Yah!

Thank u again for your blog

I will post and e-mail as usual.

    Blessings

    Marantha!

    In Christ
    Mellany and Chuck McKenzie

    I like saying each morning.
One day closer to the Rapture, b/c it is:)
    besides saying
Good morning LORD and thanking Him that I am 10 ten toes up.
    My husband’s favorite saying:)

  2. Julie says:

    Succinct and true.

  3. Jody says:

Oh Mellany, how I can relate! Same with my family. When I was born-again, the first thing my mother said to me was, “Now don’t become a fanatic.” Jesus is all that really interests me so you can imagine how well I fit in my family. I take solace in the fact my nieces and nephews love me.

  4. Suzanne Sutton says:

It’s not my unsaved family that sees our family as a fanatic, but rather other believers. Sadly prophecy isn’t the subject that is to be the round table discussion. We love prophecy because it’s the rest of the whole story, the fulfillment of God’s work8ng.

  5. Dmarie says:

I listened to something the other day that gave great clarity in order to combat our confusion as Christians who are facing those who “refuse to listen” to Truth (some, while calling themselves christians also).

Since our hearts are deceitful and desperately wicked, they consistently lead us astray.
We WANT to believe that people who call themselves ‘believers’ truly are… but…
God’s Word is the “Authority” and plumb-line on which to make our judgments (and yes, judgment should be made, as Jesus said, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment”. And we know that He also stated, “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.”

So, it is one thing to be DECEIVED, as many of us, including myself, have been in the past. However, it is another thing entirely to reject the Truth of God’s Word when it is shown to us. “He who the Son sets FREE is FREE indeed…” and He will rescue those who are His. SO, the real test is not necessarily whether or not a person is currently deceived, the REAL test is: do they RECEIVE the Truth when it is shown to them??” IF they reject the Truth of the Scriptures, they have shown themselves to be following “the spirit of error” rather than following the spirit of Truth (which would be able to FREE them if they listened). TRUE believers will FOLLOW the Spirit of Truth (“My sheep hear MY voice.”)

That teaching really helped me understand WHY these people ‘cannot’ hear… even while claiming to be Christians. It isn’t anything ‘personal’, after all, our battle is not against “flesh and blood”. It is a spiritual battle, and we choose the side we are on. They reject us, because we bring God’s Word, and they reject God Himself, who IS the Word (Jesus).

“NOT everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord” will enter the Kingdom of heaven.”
Sometimes we tend to make things ‘gray’ when they are really black and white.
These are such perilous times, and we must be able to better discern who is on the side of Truth.

Lord, have mercy, and strengthen us to REMAIN in YOU during these very perilous times!
Help us to yoke ourselves with others who TRULY LOVE your Word (who is Jesus), so that we can HELP each other and encourage each other, especially as ‘the time of the end’ is drawing so near.
Help us to remember that a little leaven leavens the whole lump – it WILL hurt us to be undiscerning. You have lovingly warned us, and told us to be sober and alert… please do not let us allow our hearts to lead us astray. Maranatha!!!

So true,John 18:37 comes to mind…”all who are of the truth will hear my voice…”
