How Christ is Denied…Mark 8 pt 5

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.  For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.( Mark 8:34-38)

I used to have a pretty simplistic understanding of Jesus’ warning, that it would possible to “gain the world, and lose your soul”. My take on it was that Jesus was warning that should I ever become famous, powerful or rich,(gain the world),  I could easily forget who I really was, the change could corrupt me, and I could fall away from God. All of course is true, but that is a very elementary understanding of the verse.

I pointed out in my last article my new understanding of what it means to “gain the world”, in the story of the two tele-evangelists on Larry King. The second one, “gained the world” when for a sliver of approval, by Larry King himself, the lesbian guest, and the viewing and listening audience, he opposed his brother, who was taking an unpopular stand for righteousness.

For that brief moment of being regarded by the world as ‘tolerant’, and ‘open minded’, the second preacher basked in the world’s appreciation,  he ‘gained the world’. Like Peter, warming himself by the fire of the godless, this preacher took the side of ungodly men at the expense of the truth of God, and of God’s faithful minister.

There are whole churches now, who are  representing themselves as being more tolerant, and much more compassionate than the ‘conventional church’, by accommodating Islam, and also by being open to homosexual ‘christians’. These churches will definitely receive the fawning press coverage, and the accolades of this godless world, but they do so at the expense of every christian who ever suffered for fleeing Islam,or  of all who have agonized to come out of the bondage of the unnatural and degrading lust that is homosexuality.

Their reward is that they get to be perceived as the ‘mature ones’, the loving and understanding ministers and churches, distinguished  from the ‘judgmental fundamentalist christians’ who still insist that homosexuality is a sin, and that the God of the Bible is definitely not ‘allah’. This is the subtle meaning of “gaining the world’.

In a similar and related light, my understanding of what it means to deny Christ has also matured. My earliest understanding was simple, and I believe is yet true. I saw myself lined up against a wall with several other bedraggled believers. A “Red” communist officer barks the warning, “Deny Christ or else we shoot!”. I always prayed that I would rather die than deny Christ.(I still do).

But I have come since to see that there are other more subtle ways by which Christ is denied every single day by millions of confessing believers who have no idea that they are doing such.

We currently live in a time and place,(the west) where it is still common and unremarkable for people to confess that they are christians, and even that they love Jesus. Athletes, celebrities, rap music stars, as well as everyday people all around us, frequently confess that they know Jesus, are saved, or that they ‘owe their success and fortune” to Jesus Christ.

No one is being lined up against a wall, and threatened to deny Christ on pain of death, at this point.

But there are areas in our public discussion, which are extremely sensitive and divisive, watershed issues which bring much pressure to bear upon those who involve themselves in them, one way or the other. Issues such as Homosexuality, abortion, race, the exclusivity of Christianity, Islam, are being violently thrust on people, ministers and churches.

We have been unwittingly trained to suppress our true thoughts on these issues, by decades of ‘political correctness’. Americans are far less outspoken than they once were. People have been psychologically conditioned to defer in the name of a pseudo tolerance to positions which would have been unthinkable a couple of decades ago.(Unfortunately the tolerance only goes one way, all too often).

Homosexual marriage would have been ridiculed 30 years ago, Islam would have been vigorously resisted also. No American would have been intimidated or made to feel guilty by it’s false threats and accusations. Behold the power of false guilt, and of constant media conditioning, and the fruit of relentless political warfare by atheists, against the order of a once Judeo Christian nation. This goes beyond the political pressure, for this is a spiritual pressure.

Our Lord Jesus has something to say about each of these issues, which the world is contesting, therefore his servants have an obligation to witness to His “words to this generation”.

Whenever a minister or church or for that matter a christian, takes the side of the world on one of these issues, they are indeed denying Christ.

Churches which accommodate homosexuality on any level, are denying Christ. They are taking a stand in defiance of their own Lord and Saviour, who died to redeem all caught in the grip of sin. There are so many trapped in that sin who have suffered hatred, ridicule and abuse for their testimony that they once were “one of these, but (they)… are washed, …sanctified, …justified in the name of Christ and of God!”.

That a church would then affirm people within that lifestyle, is a slap in the face to those who for Christ’ sake have left it.This is how Christ is denied, and how they lose their soul.

Those who participate in the blasphemous “Chrislam” are denying Christ. They may be celebrated as “open-minded”, “Loving, and non judgmental” christians by the world, but they do it at the expense and blood of thousands of others who have for Jesus’ sake left Islam and witness that it is of the devil.

Race also is a tool of exploitation that many use for their own benefit and end up denying Christ. First of all, there is only one race, according to the Word of God. The real divisions are cultural. But there is much to be gained by the exploitation of race.

I once was part of a ministers prayer group, composed mainly of “African American” ministers. When the movie “Malcolm X” came out, glorifying an Islamic race baiter, a violent criminal who hated whites, I asked my fellow pastors if they planned on adressing the problem to their impressionable young people. “What do you mean brother Randles? Malcolm was one of our Civil Rights leaders, a man who loved “our people”!”. Little did they know they had just denied Christ.

By exalting a Muslim agitator as “one of their people” just because he happened to be black, and doing it at the expense of their brothers and sisters who are white, or chinese, or  anything in between, these ministers denied their Lord.  The reward was to ‘look good’, to be ‘down with the struggle’ or to keep up the nourishment of hatred and resentment,(and possibly obligation and guilt based deference of whites), but it came at the expense of Christ and His words.

These are some of the subtle ways that Christ is commonly denied, and that sides are unwittingly being taken. There is no neutrality in this final struggle, to not take a clear stand for Jesus, is the same as taking a stand against him.

Thank you Pastor Bill! You said whenever a Christian takes the side of the world they are denying Christ. I have been trying to let some family members know that you can not follow Jesus and be on the left. Those that defend what the Lord clearly opposes in scripture and call themselves Christian, are truly deceived. No wonder the Lord said that the road that leads to life is narrow and there be few who find it. Maranatha!!!

Indeed the road is narrow, standingfirm. My friends and I have recently left a church where the pastor’s wife said Jimmy Swaggart is a godly man, and he would not get the last word over her.
I thought the pastor should be protecting the flock against such things, not letting it pass by. We have nowhere else to fellowship so we will just be together and the Lord will keep us.

I thank the Lord for Pastor Bill Randles – a faithful and true witness indeed. It’s my duty and pleasure to re-blog his posts.

we have to be with “like minded” believers. I had to leave my church years ago when they started seeking signs & wonders and promoting heretics like Rick Joyner of Morningstar church which was then in Charlotte North Carolina, a two hour drive from where I lived at the time. My church family was going one way and I another. I praise the Lord that I listened to his voice in my heart as to leave. After many years my old church has been involved in every “Christian” fad that came along. Purpose driven, NAR (new apostolic reformation) etc. We must guard our hearts and minds with diligence. As Stan said above, these are indeed very perilous times!! Remember, a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. I praise Jesus for Pastor Randles and all of the other discernment ministers that the Lord led me to many years ago. Blessings everyone.

  4. Wow
    What can I say.
    Well said

    I am in agreement.
    Every hour I need thee
    Jesus I need thee
    Love the hymns

It is like I just cannot reach out anymore or share.
I still do but it is like God is teaching me to say good-bye to my friends and family
I am so ready for the Rapture.

More and more I become a pariah where ever I bring up the fact that I love Israel, or only Jesus blood and righteousness cleanses us from all sin, or the fact that I do not want to hear about transgender issues etc. etc.
2 of my dtrs. now have told me they want nothing to do with me.
They feel there is nothing else to talk about and I need counselling.

They seem to want to talk about counselling and alpha courses and nothing at all.

    What about Jesus?
What about His blood and righteousness that makes the vilest sinner clean.

It is like some days I am all alone but I have worship and I have the Word of God so I am not alone.

I do not want to deny Christ and I do not want deception to rule in my life like I see in so many churches nowadays and once was in my life as well.

Didn’t the early church just meet in houses?
    Singing hymns to one another?
Col: 3 vs 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him

That is what I do or like to do.
    Sing to Christ
Sing in the Spirit and with understanding.
I Corinthians 14 vs 15What then shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind.

I love the Word of God and the Word of God brings peace
I am lonely or looney(my family & friends do believe that I am -the ones I have left-)
So I just tell Jesus I cannot wait for Him to rule and reign from Jerusalem.

Each day He helps me and each day He directs my paths
    I am amazed.

I knew a lady once who was in a facility for the mentally ill
She was miraculously saved, like we all r:)
    She kept talking of God
They kept medicating her until her behavior etc.
    Changed their minds.
she was more rational than them.
    She was released
Came out and became a nanny
Her five children had nothing to do with her
This was over a period of years.
If u saw her u wld not believe her testimony b/c she is so very proper and British.
Her new family loved her-the children and the mom-
But the father of the household not so much
He was a lawyer and much too educated for the saving knowledge of Christ
Even in families we all have to make a choice

    I have made a choice
    It is Christ.
    Doesn’t it say that somewhere
As for me and my household we will serve the LORD
I guess even if it is only me, Chuck, r little dogs and 2 rabbits
Nobody else seems to want us
    Only Christ
    So we follow Him.

    We have invited many people.
But no one seems to want to share a bowl of chicken noodle soup with us.

    Live and let live
    I guess
Until the Rapture and then many will believe then
I am thinking that anyhow and praying that as well.
B/c I keep on sharing and praying and believing
I cannot save but Christ is sure mighty to save.

    Thank u for your blog

I will share it again until no one wants to receive my e-mails.
I ask prayer for my dtrs. and family
    Thank u

    In Christ

Exactly!!!! Finally someone else who gets it!
    : D
That is what this test is boiling down to.
There are a million ways to deny Christ. We cannot afford any one of them.
We must confess Christ before men, we are to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
It’s not about our comfort, convenience, or even survival.
It’s about our loyalty to our Lord!

Jesus showed me these things about discipleship and about how so many get it wrong.

Yes, we must confess Him before men and never renounce Him, that is clear from Matthew 10; 32-33 and other places. But, it is not just about those words, but other words and deeds that must align as well.

A good test is, after having an interaction with someone, what impression did we leave them with? That Jesus is our Lord and Master, we are to honor Him, please Him, abide by His Word? Or otherwise? Did we just appease someone to make them feel comfortable in their false spiritual position or sin? So as not to ‘make waves,’ and appear ‘tolerant’? Not ‘too’ radical? That is where most cave to the pressure.

I will cite a few examples of how easily this can happen.

    1. Going to a gay wedding or participating in its celebration in any form, including to save your business ($).
    2. Attending an interfaith prayer or event.
    3. Affirming transgenderism in school so you won’t lose your job (the gay gingerbread man in kindergarten, etc.)
    4. An assembly or lesson at school that celebrates ‘diversity’ which turns out to be other religions or homosexuality or some other forbidden item, and you go.
    5. Someone passed away and his spiritual condition is unclear. The grieving family is bawling and weeping away. They want you (a spiritual person) to assure them that their loved one is ‘in a better place.’ What do you say? You don’t know if they were saved, it looks more to the contrary, do you comfort them and say they are not in hell but in heaven? (I know this is sensitive at that time, but you can at least say you don’t know where he is as you don’t know him, and he may have turned to the Lord at the last minute, but use it as an opportunity to share the gospel, just don’t deny the truth.)
    6. Solidarity with the “I am Charlie Hebdo” movement in France, while Charlie blasphemed the Christian God all the time in his comics. So, are you Charlie? Or not?
    7. I was in a classroom some time back and the teacher had an assignment about holidays. There were no holidays from other religions, just New Years, Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and yes, the evil halloween. Kids were just supposed to write about what their favorite holiday was and why. I noticed kids had selected a variety of days and even if it was Christmas or Easter, it was all about santa and bunnies. The thought occurred to me, what if she asks me? I like to have things ready ahead of time. The truth is, Easter is my favorite holiday, because that is Resurrection Sunday. And that is what I would say if she asked me. I don’t have to get into more details but that sums it up. If they don’t like the answer, then don’t ask me! Yet some would deny Christ just to remain PC and avoid ‘bringing up religion,’ yet that is the nature of the holiday and the truthful response. That is how easily this can happen.
    8. In another room one teacher asked the students what their favorite thing was, what they like best about life, or makes them feel good, something like that. Well for me the answer was clear; the Lord. Often they don’t ask helpers, just students. People answered things like sports, friends, hobbies, etc. Well she did ask me and I would be lying if I said it was something like gardening. The question was more like what was most important to us in life, and there just was no way around it. So, I answered truthfully and she confirmed something about a personal relationship with God and I said yes. Again I did not get too detailed and you can always go deeper with that, but the message was clear. And they knew it wasn’t mini golf!
    9. Sometimes for employment there are tests one is subjected to, and be careful that they don’t ask you about supporting gay marriage or something like that and you affirm it. I heard of a case where one guy working for Social Security was asked to watch a pro-gay movie and he refused. They threatened to fire him and he stood his ground. He did not deny Christ.

People have gotten far too lax about all of this, they just ‘go along to get along’ even if they deny what the Bible says and affirm sin or false religion just to keep their jobs. This is how we gain the whole world but lose our soul. And yes, we do. And, Jesus told us we would be persecuted for following Him. He did not say it would be a bowl of cherries, but that is what all too many believe and they are sadly mistaken. We are to pick up our cross and follow Him, daily!

Great post and God bless you!!!

  6. 1blandina says:

Also, I researched early church times and it works in a similar way. Pagan mobs would get ahold of Christians and try to force them to sacrifice to a false god. Since you can’t force anyone to worship any god without their consent, this had varying results. The Christians who refused were often martyred and entered heaven in glory. Those who caved denied Christ, sacrificed to a pagan god, and survived physically. Many were so ashamed that they came back to the pagan mob, asserted that they were Christian and would NOT sacrifice to a pagan god, and ended up being martyred after all and following their more loyal brethren to heaven in glory.

It is the same today. What will you sacrifice to, and deny Jesus, in order to keep your survival and livelihood intact? The correct answer is nothing. We sacrifice ourselves to Jesus, in life and in death. All I have is His.
