What Righteousness Looks Like…eschatology pt 12

(God)Who will render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life, But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,(Romans 2:6-8)

The Infinite, personal God of the Bible, is  going to judge the world in Righteousness. The standard is absolute perfection, it could be no less. “The Righteousness that he requires, is the righteousness his righteousness requires him to require…”(anon).

Put aside the question of Jew or Gentile, and consider, what does Righteousness according to God’s standard look like ? What fruit would a perfect observance of the Torah produce in a person?

Paul, by the Holy Spirit succinctly describes the  characteristics of the righteous , as well as the mark of someone who is damned and perhaps doesn’t realise it.

“To those who by patient continuance in well doing…”

Perfect Righteousness in a person is reflected by total consistency in doing good works. A righteous man always does good.

Seek for glory, honor and immortality , eternal life”

A man is known by what he loves, desires and seeks. Show me what a man lives for, and hopes in and I can tell you the measure of that man. A righteous man seeks Glory. By that we don’t mean personal fame or aggrandizement, but the honor that shall come from God alone. “Well done thou good and faithful servant…”.

In other words a truly Righteous man seeks the praise of God, not of man, He plays before an audience of one. Jesus said of himself ,

I do not seek glory from men…(John 5:41)

As a person Jesus didn’t seek the approval or glory of man, but always to glorify God. One of his indictments to the Jewish establishment was that faith was impossible to them, because they sought glory from each other, and not from God.

How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? (John 5:44)

A Righteous man seeks Honor , which means that the rewards he seeks are from God. He isn’t man-centered, his values are oriented towards God, and the day of God’s reward,He seeks God.

Finally what a truly Righteous man seeks , is Immortality. This goes further than the desire to live forever, the one who is “in the right with God” is continually seeking “incorruptibility”, He wants free of sin, it’s ravages, and effects, He craves the total deliverance from all ‘hurtful lusts, defiling sin, anything that wrongs God or his fellow man, he longs for purity in thought as ell as deeds.

Paul declares that it is these who will be rewarded by God with eternal life. This is the true description of the one devoted to God, this is the true piety, the true righteousness, nothing more nothing less. But who is really and consistently like this?

Everything you just wrote is the reason I left the world of competitive sports,it is unrightous because it is for the glory of man, they compete for a corruptable crown, but we for an incorruptable crown, very few want to hear this or look into it.The nature that drives us to compete with our fellow man is not of God,the competitive nature is a fruit of the fallen nature. No greater love is this, that a man lay down his life for his friend. When we got saved we are no longer to compete with our fellow man but rather to serve,in this country athletes are worshipped and given preference over others, I know,I was once one,but now inChrist we are not to treat people with partiality. God is no respecter of persons, but athletics is, so the question is why does the church continue to love it and partake of it.Weigh sports against 1st John 2:15-17, this is where my deliverance from it started.May the grace and love of our Lord Jesus and God our Father be with us.

  2. An Audience of One…..That is an aspiration we all need to realize.

  3. Maureen Leigh says:

I recently wrote about Daniel, how that when the writing was signed forbidding him to worship the only true God, he did just what he had always done, opened his windows toward Jerusalem and prayed. He only cared about his audience of ONE. Dan. 6.10 If rules and laws conflict with what God wants (and has a right to expect of us) we must not obey them. Devotion to the Most High God means submission and obedience to Him alone.

Amen sister Maureen! I always think about Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Devotion and submission to God first!

I was so glad to have a comment from you Standingfirm; I have been praying for you periodically.
Be strong and know that all will be well ultimately.

  5. standingfirm says:

Thank you and bless you sister Maureen. I really do appreciate the prayer. We surely do live in perilous times as Jesus said. By the way, I was born in Mildenhall England!
    MARANATHA!!!

    • Maureen Leigh says:

I need to look it up, but I think Mildenhall is an RAF base. Bless you my dear sister. My friends call me Mo as Maureen is so formal!

  6. standingfirm says:

Wish we could be Christian pen-pals. No like minded believers around me. Life can get a bit lonely “outside the camp”. The Lord sent me to all of the precious discernment ministers around twenty five years ago. The reason I was born at Mildenhall, my dad was in the U.S.A.F. Many blessings to you and everyone here!
    MARANATHA!!!

    • Maureen Leigh says:

We can be Christian pen-pals. Let me have your email address and we can take it from there.
Mine is maureen.leigh11@gmail.com. It would be lovely to encourage one another and just be there for you when you need a friend. If you agree I will write again. God bless you and all who are here.
My 2 kittens are trying to type as well. (sometimes I have to say no!)
