Remember That We Are Pilgrims…election 2020

Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. ( I Peter 2:11)

By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.( Hebrews 11:8-10)

No matter what happens in the Political realm, I offer this short piece in order to remind my precious brothers and sisters in Messiah, that we are all called to be Pilgrims. We are only passing through, and will find no lasting home in this world, for we are being fitted and prepared for the next one.

All of us have heard Jesus’ voice which has called us up to somewhere and something so much higher and purer than anything this World has to offer. The Apostle encourages us,

“The sufferings of this present time, are not worthy to be compared to the Glory which shall be revealed…” (Romans 8:17)

We don’t know what will happen in the next few days. Obviously I have personal preferences, I don’t want to be ruled by the Left, with it’s anti Life platform, but it might please God to allow this to happen, and should it happen, we should rejoice, knowing our pilgrimage is daring to a close.

It could also be that the so called “right” could prevail, and that it could become just as despotic as the so called left would like to be. Who knows? A Pilgrim cannot rely on anything in this fallen world, except the inevitability of human ndepravity and hostility to God, and his people.

Only God knows. We just have to set our sights on the LORD and his heaven.

I was told this morning that the “Lockdown” imposed upon the UK is so severe, church meetings are now forbidden. I know a good many precious and faithfilled believers there who will not bow down to such an unjust edict. I assure you all we are praying for you.It just might Please God to call upon us to offer various degrees of sacrifice, for the cause of Truth.

Remember, We are Pilgrims, sojourners, and exiles. Our true home is in heaven.

We come from a long line of others who heard the heavenly call, and who left all to follow the one who had no place in this earth to lay his head.

We have no desire for things to get worse, nor to suffer, for we are not “super christians”, (there is no such creature) we are merely redeemed men and women, who love Jesus. I don’t want to suffer, but there is something I dread more… I don’t want to deny my LORD when it is our turn to stand up and be counted with Him and with our brother Pilgrims throughout the World and over the centuries.

I am often comforted by a story Corrie Ten Boom told us, in her book “The Hiding Place”. She was raised in a devoutly Christian family, and her father, Kaspar, was a rock of faith.Kaspar had read the Foxe’s Book Of Martyrs to Corrie and her sisters , as little girls, and the thought of martyrdom disturbed her.

She confided in her father that she was afraid of death and was quite sure she did not have the strength to be a martyr. Corrie’s father reminded her of the train ride to Amsterdam. “”When you take a train trip to Amsterdam, when do I give you the money for the ticket? Three weeks before?”

“No, Daddy, you give me the money for the ticket just before we get on the train.”

“That is right,” her father said, “and so it is with God’s strength. Our Father in Heaven knows when you will need the strength . . . He will supply all you need just in time.”

Our God is good. He knows what is going on and He cares. A bird cannot fall out of a tree without his loving notice, and you and I are worth more than many birds. I hope this song will minister to you as it does me;

To Be A Pilgrim

Happy Day of Rest! Jesus loves you…

What a lovely encouraging word from you. As we in the UK find ourselves on our own once more, I do think that the Lord is giving us personal time to spend with Him without the distractions of normal church life. Thus strengthened we should be more equipped for what lies ahead!

Praise God for this word of truth! From the Father’s Heart to His Children! It is not whether God is for ‘us’ or against ‘us’ but rather, are we for God!! I have been praying for grace to accept the election results even though I am firmly for President Trump. I know that I know Trump has God’s hand on him and our great country. But, I also know I have been convicted of many things, not the least of which is to pray God’s heart for our future and not my own. It will only be by God’s grace that I can accept a Biden win; but, God’s grace is a better gift always than what my feeble flesh or even feebler thoughts could want. Thank you for always being grounded in Christ.

    Greetings Pastor Bill,

Yes we are all pilgrims passing through this evil world. Our Lord Himself said ar His trial ‘My Kingdom is Not 0f this World’.

I appreciate the Romans verse 8: 17 quoted by you. This is my favourite Verse.

    Thank you Pastor Bill.

My prayers are for ALL true Christians.

  4. Gospel Truth says:

Powerful words! Indeed we are pilgrims in this world. Jesus is Lord.

  5. Deemar says:

    Jesus answered him,
“You would have no authority over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above…”

I have thought of this verse often in the last months especially.
“The Lord’s will” for this nation be done… which may not be the outcome that our flesh would desire… as scary as that thought surely is. The Lord will decide who will be on this earthly US throne “for such a time as this”. He is orchestrating all things for His purposes and glory.

    We must always remember:
“The Lord works ALL things together for GOOD, for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” HE will never forsake His people… He is our refuge… and those who put their full trust and hope in Jesus will NEVER be disappointed. He will supply the grace/strength/provision we need at the perfect time… we must continue to stand for Him/Truth. amen 🙂

I used that same Corrie ten Boom illustration in my post today. Thanks! 🙂

Bill, read your last paragraph, you need a new editor. Ha! Other than that, great article!

  8. Jim says:

If a certain candidate wins here in the U.S., I would imagine a similar “Lockdown” will be top priority.
It is interesting how close to 50% of the voting, U.S. population desires a Venezuelan type of economy and society. My thought is that if they are taught this, what else would they want their reality look like?

The entire world looks like it is being set up for the introduction to that “someone” that has all the answers to the worlds religious, economic, and governmental upheavals.

There are only two different forms of socialism available and neither party abhors debt when they are in power they borrow and borrow and corrupt and corrupt. Let’s not put too much faith in men and women in politics. Pray for them but look at them for what they are: part of the world system and humanism.

  9. Philip Wren says:

    Hi Bill
We met at Crawley New Life Church some years ago. I have just read the above on the Lighthouse E Newsletter. May I add a comment from Bishop J C Ryle published in 1868. “I believe that it is for the safety, happiness, and comfort of all true Christians to expect as little as possible from churches or Governments under the present dispensation, to hold themsleves ready for tremendous convulsions and changes of all things established, and to expect good things only from Christ’s Second Advent.” His comments are even more pertinent today.

  10. wojolohre says:

One of your best blog posts that I have read and super encouraging and realistic about our situation. We are sojourners. I concur that I think so many of us just want to have the courage to stand up and be counted. We can feel the time is here, here, or coming. God bless you Bill. Preach the Word, brother.
