What The Creation Of Man And Woman Teaches Us…

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.(Genesis 2:7)

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man ^. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;  And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man ^. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh ^{.   (Genesis 2:21-24)}

The Church has the answer to the Gender confusion problem, foisted upon recent generations of vulnerable children in our newly godless society. She is to bear witness to the Beauty and uniqueness of man and woman in the Image of God, and to the sure and satisfying roles assigned to each by the Creator. What we have been entrusted with is the Creation narrative.

God spoke all else into existence, from “Let there be light…” to “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:”, as the Psalmist proclaimed, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.”   (Psalm 33:9)

But when God made man, He (the Creator) involved himself personally and even physically, for He didn’t just speak us into existence, He got down in the dirt and formed with his hands our beautiful bodies. * 

Then the Creator bent over the lifeless body of the first man, and “breathed into his nostrils the breath of Life”, and man became a living soul! Breathing into our nostrils is a pretty intimate act, but such is the Creation of man. How many people would you allow to get so close as to breathe into your nostrils? (Not many I hope, for it is an intimate act). 

But before the Fall of man, there was a “Not good…”. Everything God created was evaluated by the Creator and all was good. But in Genesis 2 we see a “Not good…”. Not an evil, but rather an incompleteness. “It is not good that man be alone…”. 

A Preacher once said, “How does God take a “Not good” and turn it into a “Good”? ” It looks an awful lot like a death and resurrection.

The Creator put man into a deep sleep and performed the first surgery, and perhaps the first blood letting, for the Hebrew text tells us that he took out of the man his side. Out of that side the Creator fashioned the woman.

She was made to be complimentary to the man, neither above or beneath in any way, she came from his side, and was fashioned to be there with Him and as a Help suitable for him. She too bears the Image of God, thus the original human unit is man and woman as compliment to each other, each bringing something unique to the table of life.

When she was presented to the man, in the garden of delight, at the first wedding, Adam immediately burst forth into prophecy,

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.   Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh ^{(Genesis 2:23-24)}

Adam’s eyes had not yet been clouded by his fall from grace and he could clearly perceive the significance of this, the first wedding, that it pointed to something greater, the ultimate wedding. There too stood a groom with a hole in his side, being presented with a bride, purchased by his blood. Thus te Bible begins and ends with a wedding.

Man and woman are equal , but different. They were not created the same, nor in the same order, nor even with the same technique, and the Creator wanted us to know this, for all time, which is why this is the start of His book.

Men and woman are not interchangeable, nor is the difference merely a matter of body parts. Men and women are created fundamentally differently, but with the view of them being compliments to each other. Together they reveal the entire Image of God.

• The modern hatred for their imperfect but still beautiful body given us by God is a manifestation of the Nihilistic culture we live in. Even in a fallen state the human body is a marvel of engineering, complexity, regenerative capacity and beauty.
